Hi Liz,

The course is going well.

I’ve been paying close attention to the qualifiers I normally weave into my verbal interactions and emails this past week. Earlier in the week in a group meeting I was discussing my need to make a change to a form that the team had been working on. I said what I wanted, but couldn’t resist adding ‘but it’s not really that urgent guys.’ Lesson learned there…

Yesterday I received an email about a new task that I knew I wouldn’t be able to finish this week. After considering saying nothing and pushing myself to finish anyway (my ‘go to’), I sent back an email this morning to my team leader and colleague saying I already had enough on. I didn’t sugar coat it – just stated the facts. It was very tempting to qualify it with ‘Do you mind if’ or ‘Sorry to put pressure on the team but,’. It felt odd sending it off without the usual extra qualifiers – but they had no issues with it. Another lesson learned.

I am so grateful to Liz Paine for all the help she gave me in setting up a business Facebook page for our plumbing business. I was unable to attend the course in person and Liz was more than happy to connect with me via Skype to guide me through the whole daunting process.
